Featured Running Event of the Week - BigFoot 10k

The BigFoot 10k (and 5k) is part of the BigFoot Triathlon Weekend in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  The event has nothing to do with the mythical (or is it) creature of the same name, but rather, it takes place at the BigFoot Beach State Park.

As mentioned, there is a Triathlon that takes place on Sunday, but the 5k and 10k races take place on Saturday.  The same running course is used for all 3 events.  The 10k is the 5k, times two.

The view from near the starting area is breathtaking as it is across a small street from Lake Geneva itself - and the view is unobstructed.  Makes for a great photo, especially with a panoramic lens.  The course itself is a mixed bag of terrain.  It starts off on grass and is quite flat, within yards from the start, runners head directly towards the picturesque view I just described, they then cross an arched wooden bridge and then disappear into the woods.  The majority of the course is shaded, and in the summer of 2017, that's a major plus!!  At this point, the course is primarily dirt and 2-4 wide, there is really no single trail area.  Briefly the course exits the woods and onto pavement as it cuts through the camping area and then back to dirt.  Not long after that, the course does exit into a large, unshaded, prairie with tall grass to both sides of the short grass trail.  Again, the trail is 2-4 wide, and in this area is essentially flat.  The course heads back into the woods again.  As runners approach the start/finish area, they are greeted with the steepest hill of the day.  It's not extremely steep, but it's one last "gotcha" before entering a grassy flat finish.  One last challenge before the end.  10k runners avoid the finish chute and do it all again.

It's an enjoyable run, lots of changes in scenery and a great view at the start (and midpoint for 10k).

Camping is also available on-site for those that are interested in camping.
