FEATURED 5K OF THE WEEK - JJC Haunted 5k

Joliet Junior College Haunted 5k

Halloween week, this seems to be the appropriate 5K to feature.  The event took place this past weekend - so runners - plan ahead for next year.

Location : Joliet Junior College, in Joliet
Presented by : JJC Cross Country Team
Benefiting : JJC Cross Country Team
SWAG : First 100 entries received an awesome knit winter hat, in the JJC Haunted 5k colors (not just another shirt)

The course was primarily flat and fast, with a couple of hills - a small incline to start and a decent gradual incline with about 1 mile to go.  But then a great all downhill final half mile.  Course was on all pavement - semi-cirlcling the college and then to a nearby bike trail.  The "haunting" was family friendly fun Halloween.  Pumpkins, instead of orange cones, were used to mark the path where needed.  Volunteers/course marshalls were all in costume, there were scattered Halloween props throughout - and, most appropriately, the Finish Line was a graveyard display!!  Fun Halloween songs (Monster Mash, Werewolf in London, etc) were played throughout the event at the staging area.  Very enthusiastic volunteers.  Awesome awards - a 12"x12" tombstone plaque for overall winners, a jack-o-lantern plaque for age-group winners.
