Featured Live Music Artist of the Week - The Time Bandits
Mike, Tony, Robert, and Waldo - The Time Bandits!
Well, his friends said I could call him Waldo - actually his name is Dennis.
Meet The Time Bandits : Mike Croschere, Tony Giangreco, Dennis Wald, and Robert Rodriquez.
If you are familiar with The Beatles or The Fest For Beatles Fans - I'm sure you recognize some of those names - such as longtime mainstay "under the stairs", Tony Giangreco and also Mike Croschere, and Beatles author and Fest panelist, Robert Rodriquez. Please also welcome Dennis Wald.
The Time Bandits are a Beatles cover band, not to be confused with a Tribute Band. (I think we all saw that movie where they argued over the difference). The Time Bandits focus on the music of The Beatles, not the costumes. They don't look like or act like The Beatles - they celebrate the greatness of The Beatles by playing The Beatles music in the manner in which it is meant to be enjoyed - in front of a live audience - while having fun! And these guys have fun!
The set list is quite extensive and covers Beatles classics and uber-familiar Number Ones, Beatles deep cuts, even as deep as songs from The White Album, they play covers of the Beatles playing covers, and also a very well-rounded collection of solo material. The band exists in the "classic" Beatles style - bass, lead, rhythm (with acoustic), and drums. There are no keyboards or "studio instruments", so solo songs like Maybe I'm Amazed and Imagine are not part of the set list. This is The Beatles Live lineup.
The band can rock the place using any of the Beatles various genres (mentioned above) - they can seamlessly move from one style to the next, from one era to the next, and from Beatles to solo and back again. When it's time to rock - like on the early Beatles songs and the cover songs The Beatles covered - these guys rock and scream and jump and Twist & Shout (see what I did there?). When it's time for the deep cuts, their musicianship is the focus as they pull off some excellent Beatles tunes. And the variety of solo material in their repertoire would impress any Beatles fan. I didn't actually keep a tally, but I think each Beatle was treated fairly in the solo department.
The band is energetic and engages the crowd - as was evident by the standing-room-only crowd this past weekend.
The Time Bandits are a great Beatles Live Experience.
