Yep, you probably guessed it from the name - this is an Irish band - an Irish Rock Band to be more precise.
I recently saw them on St. Patrick's Day at Fado Irish Pub in Chicago's River North.
This is a 5-piece band : drums, bass, guitar (and small guitar,
whatever that's properly called), accordion, and bagpipes. And of
course - vocals. The piper in true Scottish/Irish form - performs in
full attire - kilt and all.
The band covers everything from traditional Irish jigs and reels to classic rock covers to modern rock covers - and even The Beatles - pulling off a stunning rendition of "I've Just Seen A Face" - which sounds really cool with an Irish flair added to it!
The front-man is a true entertainer - not just a guitarist and not just a vocalist - but a true front-man, the entertainer, the one who mixes it up with the audience..........and often.
The musicianship is solid across all five members and impressive in their ability to change genres so easily.
A nice touch was a band-led toast between practically every song.
The bad part about reviewing this band, is if I say too much I spoil the fun that is their live performance.
So, what I'd say - excellent musicians, well-versed, very talented, lots and lots and lots of fun, and full of surprises - lots of surprises.
You'll hear some music you were expecting, like classic Irish tunes and some U2, but you'll hear a lot of stuff you were not expecting.
Highly recommended!!!!
