Featured Live Music Artist of the Week - BAD DAY

A throw-back-Thursday moment for this article.

Bad Day was one of nearly 20 bands performing at the inaugural Steger Days of Music in 2013.  They had late afternoon/early evening slot - on a hot and humid midwestern day - and to top it off - it was an outside stage with no canopy.

But that didn't matter - Bad Day got up on stage and performed as is it was a perfect temperature day under the lights at a big amphitheater.  One added bonus, the band had just happened to sponsor a local stock car (Josh Nelms #0) that year.  Because of this, while the band took the stage, the stock car was wheeled in front of the stage for all to see.  This presented tons of great photo ops for kids and adults alike.  At the end, the car fired up and pulled away, and even did some donuts away from the stage.  The benefits of sponsorship.....but I digress.

Bad Day was a 5-piece band, complete with drums, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, and keyboards.  Back to the racing theme, the keyboard player, looked an awful lot like Danica Patrick, and that's not just my opinion, I heard others in the crowd at previous shows say the same.  The band had a main frontman who is both vocalist and guitarist, but others also sang, based on the song selection.  The band had a cool retro-50s style on stage, with black "bowling shirts" and a WWII style illustrated logo - like the kind of thing people would see on the side of fighter planes in the movies and illustrations.

The logo/look fit the band, as they were a cover band - and they covered everything from 1950s to the 2000s, spanning the decades for all different types of Rock & Roll.  The Millenial-1950s look fit perfectly.  I don't remember the exact set list - but it was everything from Elvis to Neil Diamond to Soundgarden to GNR.  And tons of stuff in between, including a song or two from the female band member.

With 3 guitars and keys, they were able to cover basically any rock & roll genre or band.  A very professional band from all aspects; backstage, on-stage, crowd interaction, and musicianship.  Though I don't know the musical background of each member, they were all accomplished musicians and were able to play each song reminiscent of the original.  Of course, like any cover band worth watching, they always added their unique Bad Day touch to the song in some manner, either with their own solos, lyrically, or just nuances.  The entire band was quite active on stage and fun to watch.  The lead vocalist had no problem coming to the forefront and interacting with the fans - and before I forget, he had quite the vocal range too!!

This was one of those bands that made watching the show enjoyable - there was always something energetic, unique, mesmerizing, fun, and even funny happening on stage throughout the show.  It was obvious these musicians enjoyed playing music and took great pride in their performance.
