With all of the "tickets on sale" announcements for Steger Days of Music this past weekend, it only makes sense to feature another aspect of that 4-day event.......
THE AMERICAN WARRIOR 5K
(registration at - https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Steger/AmericanWarrior5K).
The American Warrior 5k will be run on Saturday, July 18th through the
streets of Steger, IL. This will be one of many events happening on
Saturday as part of the 4-day Steger Days Of Music event (carnival,
crafters, food vendors, dueling pianos, and Travis Tritt all set for
7/18).
But back the 5k. This will be the inaugural running of this 5k - in what we all hope will be many consecutive successful years.
This year's event will start outside of the Fire Station (interim Village Hall) just off of Steger Road on Steger's east side (On Lewis Avenue). Parking is available on location.
The course then heads west into the tree-lined residential streets, which have some not-so-obvious inclines, and then back east into the light industrial park (giving it an obvious Chicago Southland feel), then continues past where it started and into a new subdivision and then back into a senior housing center, before returning to the start/finish line. The course goes from light industry to large-trees and residential back to light industry and then to a new subdivision with no trees all that tall and then back. A good microcosm of a typical Chicago Southland village.
From what I understand, and I don't want to spoil any surprises - there will be some very cool surprises as the start/finish line as well.
And, this course happens to pass my house - so I will be "giving back" to the running community and providing some nice surprises which I have seen while running in other residential areas. You won't be disappointed.
Come out for a nice summertime run in a typical Chicago Southland community - and stay for the fun. (The Steger Days Of Music is just on the other side of Steger Road from this event).
