Monday's Featured 5k of the Week - Grant Park Turkey Trot

Seems fitting for Thanksgiving Week.

When : This coming Saturday (11/29/14)
Where : Grant Park, Chicago, southern portion near Museum Campus

The Turkey Trot also includes a Kids Dash about 20 minutes prior to the start.  This is an out-and-back course, with about 1 mile that is separate from the out-and-back portion.  The course begins in South Grant Park near Roosevelt Road and the Museum Campus.  Ideal for those who want to take the Metra/Electric there and back from the Chicago Southland!  Race starts at 9:00am.

Runners then go under LSD (Lake Shore Drive) and north along the Lake Front path, on the path closest to LSD.  Then at the Chicago yacht club turn back south and run along the actual Lake Front path - right next to the Lake - and I mean right next to it!!  Returns back under LSD makes a quick run around south Grant Park and basically finish where you started, with that final mile being different scenery that the first 2 miles.  What is cool about this course - because it starts in south Grant Park and heads north, runners are able to soak in the entire Chicago skyline in all its grandeur, including the historic south Michigan Avenue buildings, then on the way back runners are right along the greatest inland lake anywhere, while having the Museum Campus directly ahead.  A quick 1 mile around south Grant Park adds to the scenery.  There are quite a few Chicago races and they are all scenic - but by starting in south Grant Park, you get the full view of the skyline for about 1 mile - then a full 1 mile jaunt right next to the lake.  In all honesty, I find this the most scenic route of all Chicago 5Ks - it looks ordinary on paper, but spectacular in person!

Medals to all finishers.  Overall winners and top 3 per age group.
