Featured 5k of the Week - the AshleyCan Pediatric Cancer Foundation Go Gold for Kids Weekend

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - and the AshleyCan Pediatric Cancer Foundation, whose mission is dedicated to raising Awareness for Pediatric Cancer. And also dedicated to providing assistance to families of children with cancer and helping to ensure a future for these children fighting this disease by providing funding for research, is hosting multiple events.

On Saturday, September 12 beginning at 8:30am, the Foundation is hosting a 3.6 Mile "Walk To Remember & Honor". This is WALK, something for all the non-runners out there AND also the runners! (Runners can walk too, so I've read). The 3.6 miles is symbolic of the 36 children who are diagnosed with cancer EVERY SINGLE DAY. The walk begins at the Bourbonnais Municipal Center and than traverses down the main roadways of Bourbonnais. This is an excellent chance to accomplish a few things - get in a safe and healthy 3.6 mile walk, talk with some friends while walking, and at the same time raise awareness for Childhood Cancer. The larger the crowd down the main streets - the greater the awareness.

On Sunday, September 13 beginning at 7:30am, it's time for the runners to Run Bold For The Gold!!! A multi-distance event which includes a Half-Marathon, a 10k, a 5k, and a 1 mile family fun run. All events start at the Bourbonnais Municipal Center, and based on the length of the race travel through an attractive subdivision, Perry Farm Park, and the Kankakee River Banks (scenery depends on the length chosen). The Half and 10k start at 7:30, the 5k at 9:00am, and the 1 mile race at 10:00am. These are all wonderful routes, a few hills, yet still fast courses. A great opportunity to enjoy a healthy and competitive run, a chance to meet runners that one might not normally meet, and a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness to fight Childhood Cancer.

Both of these events are excellent opportunities to keep healthy, meet friends, and most importantly raise money and awareness necessary to fight the the terrible diseases of Childhood Cancers. Money and awareness gained through these events goes to take care of our most precious gift - children, though assistance and research!

Great events for a great cause.
