Yes, I needed spellcheck to get that name right. (Had trouble with Eyes).
Beatles fans will mostly likely catch reference immediately. For the more casual Beatles fans - it's a line from Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
There are Beatles Cover
Bands out there that practically sound like The Beatles, and there are
Beatles Tribute Bands out there that practically look identical to The
Beatles themselves. And there are Beatles Bands that are a cross
between the two - and everything in between.
Kaleidoscope Eyes is a Beatles Cover Band - that plays all the hits - ACOUSTIC. Yep - acoustic - and I don't mean just Blackbird and Rocky Raccoon and much of The White Album.
No, I mean Oh! Darling, Come Together, I Feel Fine, Day Tripper, Doctor Robert, Help!, A Hard Days Night, Ticket To Ride, and yes, much of The White Album - and of course, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. To name only a few.
This 5-piece band consists of 3 or 4 acoustic guitar players, 1 or 2 on percussion, and every now and then, when absolutely necessary 1 on keyboards (the only electric instrument used) - oh yeah, and harmonica!
This acoustic approach, in this writer's opinion, adds depth to the songs. Yes, I said acoustic adds depth. Because when this band plays these songs, they bring out the feeling and emotion in the songs through their acoustic presence. It seems to add more feeling to the songs when not clouded by electricity.
The guitarists play in perfect harmony throughout the songs giving the songs an almost-Phil Spector Wall Of Sound feeling - though acoustic. It's powerful, yet mellow. Bold, yet understated. Perfect to chill out by or to dance with. Kaleidoscope Eyes takes these sometimes technically written songs and simplifies them (in a good way) with the skillful use of acoustic instruments. It's like The Beatles fireside. Or, if they were still around in the VH-1 era, The Beatles Unplugged.
I mentioned the guitars playing in harmony - but let's talk some top notch harmonies - the vocals!! Any fan of The Beatles understands the complexity and importance of the harmonies - and these guys nail it!!! There are few bands who understand the nuances and importance of correct harmonies - and this band most certainly does. Along with the guitars, the vocals continue to supply that Spector-like Wall of Sound - even though it's unplugged and no studio tricks!!
This is the perfect band for a bar show, a big stage show, a beer tent show, a house party, a garden party, a party party (yes, I went there), and everything in between. There is something very engaging about their acoustic style and their spot-on vocals.
And, they have a cool website URL too - www.beatlesforhire.com
