Featured Live Music Artist of the week - Little Johnny and the HouseRockers
Our featured live music artist of the week is from the Chicago Southland - the south side of Chicago. From the outskirts of the city that invented the blues!! (well, at least the northern blues, I think New Orleans might have been the blues capital first)
And Little Johnny and the HouseRockers know how to play them blues!!
A 4-piece band consisting of Little Johnny one vocals and electric guitar. And not just electric guitar - but electric slide guitar!!!! And of course traditional fret style as well. Little Johnny makes that guitar sing when he's not singing. And Johnny has got quite the bluesy voice!
Then comes Chicagoland bass guitar legend, formerly of the metal band Midnight, as well as currently a member of the Surf/Classic Rock Band Big Boppers, Mr. John Falstrom! One can not have Chicago blues without a solid bass line. And John delivers that flawlessly throughout the songs and the jams!
Of course, the rhythm section is not complete without the drums. And Mr. Joe Petkus is the drummer extraordinaire. Joe keeps that sold backbeat going through out each song, keeping that famous blues beat, solid and steady. Of course, when drum solo time comes, he can jam with the best of them!
And, can one have a Chicago blues band without a Sax Player? I think not! Wild Bill Wisniewski lit up stage right (or is that my left, his right) with some wailin' sax all set!!! Understated when needed and forefront in-your-face when appropriate. The perfect Chicago Blue Sax sound! Reserved in appearance and sound, until it's time - and when it's time - it's time!!!
All four members play seamlessly together like a well oiled machine. Moving from song to song and effortlessly backing each other during awesome solos. It's everything one would expect from a blues band, with Little Johnny holding court center stage, and in true blues style, counting off the intros!!
Blues jamming at it's finest!
And if that wasn't enough, this band is VERSATILE. When they want they can kick some classic rock and some awesome guitar rock as well. They can be a blues band or a biker's band or a late night pub classic rock band.
The talent in the band runneth over!
And, hey, by the way, they just happen to be playing at the AshleyCan Pediatric Cancer Foundation Charity Ride on Saturday, July 23, at The Glass Tap in Steger. The ride starts at 10:00am - and Little Johnny & The HouseRockers hit the stage around 6:00pm.
But even if you don't catch them there, keep your eyes open for Little Johnny and the HouseRockers - you won't be disappointed!!
