Okay, doing a little switcheroo this week. The Gladds aren’t exactly Artists, and certainly not “live music artists”, as we commonly feature here. As a matter of fact, they are simply a family. But, not just a family, a fictional family, from a book.
Now, we’ve featured Painters before, as they are also artists, so this
week, we are going to feature a writer, because, quite simply – writing
is also art. And therefore, a writer is an artist. And, this writer is
living, therefore a Live Artist – just not our usual, Live Music
Artist.
The author is James H. Brown III, and he has penned the books “The Gladds” and “The Gladds II”.
“The Gladds II” is just about to be released, but I have read “The Gladds”, and it was a riveting read. To be honest, I’m not a “big reader”. I do love to read books, but it takes me weeks, even months, to complete books that I really enjoy. I just don’t “sit and read”. I’ll read on the commuter train, maybe at lunch, and that’s about it. Hence, months to complete a book.
“The Gladds” however, a fictional thriller, was so riveting, that I read it all in one sitting. Went outside, sat on the deck, grabbed a couple of cold ones, and polished off all 150 pages at once. This is one of those books that I just couldn’t put down (except to grab another cold one).
Being a thriller, I can’t really tell you much about it – that would be known as a “spoiler” and I won’t do that. But, I will quote portions of the back-cover blurb.
“Vengeance is defined as punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong.....We consider ourselves civilized people. But what if....” And that’s all I’m gonna give you.
It’s a great read, it’s riveting and relevant. And it is worth the read.
The book is available online from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million – just search for “The Gladds” by James H. Brown III.
Now, a bit about the author. I met him last year at Flashback Weekend HorrorCon in Rosemont (Chicago). Before even knowing he was an author, I could tell he was driven to succeed. Driven in that positive way. A person who believes that anybody can do anything they set their mind to doing. A positive attitude towards everything. If James says he can do it – he will do it.
In addition, his knowledge of the Horror/Thriller genre is top notch. And I think this definitely provides a positive impact on his writing, as he knows what’s “good” in the genre of Thriller.
James also enjoys sharing his excitement about the horror/thriller genres through a facebook fan group - "Horror Fanatics", and a youtube channel by the same name, where he hosts a weekly webcast about the genre.
Given his enjoyment of the genre, and his positive outlook on life, I was confident I would enjoy the book, even before opening it – and I was correct.
There is a sequel – and the trailer for the sequel is on that YouTube Channel. Rumor has it, the sequel will be out in November 2016!
Keep your eyes open for more from James H. Brown III................and The Gladd family!!!!
