Featured Live Music Artist of the Week - Iron Horse
The best way I can describe Iron Horse is with this exclamation -
"Yes, that just happened!"
Rarely do I post pictures in these reviews, because I hope the reader eventually sees the band live at some point, and I don't want to play "spoiler". But this is an exception - this picture sums it up.
There are people who say Iron Horse is a country band. Yes they are. But they are also a rock-a-billy band. They are also a southern rock band. They are also an old-time Memphis style band, echoing back to the Sun Studios era. They are most definitely a FUN BAND TO WATCH!!! And of course, to listen to, after all it is music, it's there to be heard, not just seen.
The picture above is just a moment in time during their show - but what a moment to happen to capture on film.
The band is a 3-piece consisting of drums, upright bass (yes, I said upright bass), and guitar. Along with vocals. As mentioned above, the style ranges from new country, to old country, to southern rock, to rock-a-billy. It is a perfect mixture of some familiar songs and a host of spectacular originals.
They even bring back the ghosts of Memphis and Sun Studios while performing a 3-piece trio, complete with a single drum on a stand.
The band works together like a well-oiled machine with everybody knowing exactly what the other person is doing, both physically on-stage and musically. Cohesive.
And again, I've said it before, a key factor for me is if the band is having fun. And this band has fun! There is no question that these three love what they do - enjoy making music - and enjoy entertaining the crowd.
And, though this band is no stranger to playing in the "big leagues", having toured with Steel Magnolia, Craig Morgan, and Chris Cagle, to name a few, this band still knows what it's like to play the festivals - and they thrive on it. They are that festival band that reminds us of days gone by, while still keeping us in the now.
It's always enjoyable to listen to bands that know and appreciate the roots of their music. In their music, in their sound, you can hear them paying homage to the greats like Elvis and Johnny Cash - while still kicking it up modern style!
I'll tell you one thing, as they say in the business, and this is no lie - these guys "are one hard act to follow".
