Featured Running Event of the Week - KRRC Challenge

The Kankakee River Running Club (KRRC) holds an annual "boys vs. girls" challenge.  Last year it was in April, this year in March.  This club happened to choose "boys vs. girls", but based on the club it could be "over this age vs. under this age" or "people who live east of here vs. those west of here" or whatever.  In theory, they could even hold a draft for the teams.  The point isn't the team makeup - but rather the challenge itself.

The KRRC Challenge challenges members to get more running (or walking) miles than the other team in that particular month.

These are not "my total steps for the day" - but rather miles gained (walked or ran) during a concerted fitness effort.  A dedicated fitness walk, or run.  I believe treadmill is counted this year as well.

This is sort of like the "Play 60" for grown-ups.  You know that program promoted by professional sports to get kids outside playing for 60 minutes per day.  Same idea, get the runners and walkers, out doing their running or walking.  There is no down side - walking and running is healthy.  It is also fun.

It's not just about logging miles, it's about being healthy, it's about friendship (go walk or run with others), it's about enjoying nature (go someplace new, or someplace same).  It's about enjoying the weather and enjoying life.  It's a chance to remember, this isn't just about training for the next 5k, or Marathon, or Ultra, or anything in between.  It's about being healthy and having fun!!!

Last year, the participating members logged over 10,700 miles.  Yes, you read that correctly - in one month.

Doesn't rally matter which side won or lost - what matters is trying to break that total in 2017.

Kudos to the KRRC Committee that came up with this idea!!

See you all on the trails, or roads, or tracks, or paths......
