So, yes, I've done this one before, but wait, it's different this time!
The Rolex 5k is a 5k run on the very same race track that the sportscars will be racing on only 8 hours later, but they race for 24 hours, not just a 5k (or 1 lap). The novelty and coolness of the 5k is that sportscar fans get to run on the very track their racing heroes will be racing on.
In the past the course started and ended at the Start/Finish line on pit road and traversed most - but not all - of the infield road course and both high banked turns, but not the frontstretch.
For reasons unknown, the organizers changed the route, and I think, sportscar fans will like the new course even better.
The course starts on the superstretch (backstretch) and runs through NASCAR 3 & 4 (runners run on the apron, not the banking), goes through the frontstretch (crossing the start/finish line), then into the roadcourse from the opposite directions as the cars will later in the day. The runners then complete the ENTIRE infield road course and return to the pit road finish-line (in the opposite direction) to conclude the race. NASCAR 1&2 is removed from the route, but the frontstretch is added and the entire infield road course is added.
Regardless of which course is used - this is definitely a bucket list race for any runner who is also a sportscar fan!
By the way, race entry also provides an infield pass for the entire 24 Hour sportscar race!!!
