The 1909 Plan of Chicago - The Burnhan Plan

Public Plazas, Parks, and Preserves - and of course a lakefront.

The 1909 Plan of Chicago - aka, The Burnham Plan -

"The Lake front by right belongs to
the people, It affords their
one great unobstructed view, stretching away
to the horizon, where water and clouds seem
to meet. . . . Not a foot of its shores should be
appropriated by individuals to the exclusion
of the people.” - 1909 Plan of Chicago

Of course there is MUCH more to the plan - public plazas/gathering places, forest preserves, parks, streamlined transportation, and much much more.

"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will not themselves be realized" - Daniel Burnham, Chicago's greatest champion. A true urban visionary.
